As I think back about the experience of knowing about recovery, I would have to say Betty Ford was the first lady (No Pun Intended) I had ever heard talk about the possibility of recovery in an organized, accountable fashion.
So how are we doing today compared to the 1970s? We’re still in a human crisis of addiction and recovery, now with the opioid epidemic. Mrs. Ford’s effort to remove the social stigma of substance abuse were effective but are far from complete. And with all the new science and tools, we continue to work the steps toward satisfying recovery and emotional growth.
